Stakeholder Panel on Infant Formula and Adult Nutritionals (SPIFAN)

The AOAC Stakeholder Panel on Infant Formula and Adult Nutritionals (SPIFAN), in its eighth year, continues to make significant progress, resulting in consensus-based standards and methods to address issues most impacting the infant formula industry.  AOAC signed a new agreement in October 2018 with the Infant Nutrition Council of America (INCA) to continue SPIFAN activities, with an emphasis on completing the original SPIFAN goals, as well as facilitating review and evaluation of AOAC SPIFAN methods by international organizations, publishing standards and methods resulting from SPIFAN activities, and exploring new opportunities in need of standards development.

Original Goals:
1. Publish Standard Method Performance Requirements (SMPRs®) and AOAC Official First and Final Action     methods.
2. Facilitate review and evaluation of AOAC SPIFAN methods by the International Organization for     Standardization (ISO) and/or International Dairy Federation (IDF), as well as AOAC review of ISO/IDF
    methods
.
3. Facilitate joint submission, review, and evaluation of AOAC SPIFAN methods for consideration as Codex     Type II methods.
